On 7 July 2026, the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce (UKJT) published its Legal Statement on Liability for AI Harms. Jacob Turner was one of the co-authors, alongside Matthew Lavy KC, Iain Munro, Richard Munden, Lucy McCormick and Isabel Barter.
The UKJT is an initiative of LawTech UK, supported by the Ministry of Justice and chaired by Sir Geoffrey Vos MR. It is tasked with promoting the use of English law, and the UK’s jurisdictions, to govern technology and digital innovation. The purpose of the UKJT is to clarify key questions regarding the legal status of, and basic legal principles applicable to, novel technologies under English law.
As AI technology becomes more widely adopted across all areas of the economy, the Legal Statement on AI Harms is intended to provide a clear framework to address complex questions arising from liability for the decisions of AI systems and to dispel legal uncertainty. The conclusions of previous UKJT Legal Statements on cryptocurrency have been cited and followed by the English Courts and reflected in subsequent legislation.
