Three Fountain Court members are instructed in two of The Lawyer’s ‘Top 10 Appeals’ of 2026, as follows:
Julia Mazur and others v Charles Russell Speechlys in which Richard Coleman KC and Marianne Butler are instructed by Russell-Cooke for The Law Society.
This highly anticipated appeal, which has been expedited to be heard by the Court of Appeal on 24 February 2026, concerns the challenge by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) to Mr Justice Sheldon’s ruling last year that a non-authorised individual may not conduct litigation under the Legal Services Act 2007, even if acting under the supervision of an authorised person.
Angel v Black Horse in which Patrick Goodall KC acts for the lead Appellants, Black Horse Limited and Close Brothers Limited, instructed by TLT LLP.
This high-profile appeal is due to be heard by the Court of Appeal on 22 to 23 April 2026 and concerns the use of ‘omnibus’ claim forms, whereby hundreds or thousands of claimants are included on a single claim form, in relation to unfair relationship claims brought under section 140A of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 against lenders in a motor finance context.
