Fountain Court is a member of the Bar Sustainability Network which provides guidance and  range of services to chambers with the aim of creating more sustainable ways of working.

Fountain Court is committed to providing services in a way which is environmentally sustainable. We are at the forefront of initiatives to improve the sustainability and environmental impact of barristers’ chambers and the legal professions more widely.

  • Greener Litigation Pledge. We are founding members of the Greener Litigation Pledge, which commits Chambers to taking active steps to reduce, with a view to minimising, the environmental impact of our practice in England and Wales, as well as to reducing emissions in line with the objective of restricting global warming to 1.5°C.
  • Carbon Emissions Transparency. In July 2025 we became the first set of barristers’ chambers to publish verified carbon emissions data to the ISO 14064-1 standard. Our emissions data and verification certificate are available here.
  • Practical Measures to Reduce Impact. We are implementing our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and achieving more sustainable ways of working through a wide variety of measures, including:
    • Promoting electronic working by members of Chambers, including by providing training and resources for members to use.
    • Completing our transition to 100% renewable gas and electricity suppliers.
    • Reducing the impact of Chambers’ international practice through the use of remote video-conferencing and sustainable travel options.
    • Prioritising partnerships with suppliers whose credentials support environmentally responsible practices.
    • We take active steps to reduce the environmental impact of day-to-day office activities, including by providing refillable water bottles for use by members and staff and installation of motion-sensitive lighting where possible.
  • Bar Sustainability Network. We are members of the Bar Sustainability Network, which supports chambers’ transition to a more sustainable way of working.
