The Fourth Edition of Lissack and Horlick on International Bribery and Corruption, co-authored by Richard Lissack KC (with Fiona Horlick KC of Outer Temple Chambers), has just been published by LexisNexis. There are contributions from nine members of Fountain Court (namely, Robin Barclay KC, Tamara Oppenheimer KC, Eleanor Davison, Adam Sher, Nico Leslie, Christopher Langley, Leonora Sagan, Simon Paul and Aaron Taylor) and a door tenant (David Wingfield), as well as by leading practitioners from around the world.
This textbook is widely regarded as being at the forefront of works in this area of the law and this edition, which comes five years after the last, addresses the ever-steepening curve of exponential growth in this field.
The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, has provided the Foreword to this edition just as her predecessors, Lord Burnett of Maldon and Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, did for the Third and Second Edition respectively. In her Foreword, Baroness Carr tracks recent landmark developments in the evolution of the law in the field of bribery and corruption and references the considerably expanded focus of this edition. In particular, she notes the extensive debate among international arbitration practitioners following the decision of the Commercial Court in The Federal Republic of Nigeria v Process & Industrial Developments Limited [2023] EWHC 2638 (Comm), the Supreme Court’s decision in Hopcraft v Close Brothers Limited [2025] UKSC 33, and the changes to corporate liability introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.
Baroness Carr observes that the Fourth Edition “stands as a comprehensive guide to this complex area of legal practice” and concludes that it “will further enhance the book’s position as a practitioners’ ‘go-to’ work in the field of international bribery and corruption”.
